Mother’s Day at Lobo Luxe

Gift Guide mothers Day

Find Something Special for Your Mum : www.loboluxe.com

To my way of thinking, a day that is designated to celebrate Mothers – has to be special.  With the busy lives we lead, we don’t need to live far from our parents to sometimes feel disconnected from them.   Mother’s Day pushes families together in a gentle way, it gives us the opportunity to reflect on the special bond we have with our Mum’s and the nurturing and support they have given us over the years.  Mother’s Day for me is a bit of a logistical challenge, there is breakfast for me, made by my son,  lunch at my Mum’s and then my Mother-in-Law’s – phew it is a bit of a marathon but well worth it.

At Lobo Luxe we would like to offer all our wonderful customers a 30% off sale ( storewide for all ‘in stock’ items*).

I hope you find something special for your Mum or a reward/treat for yourself.  The sale ends on the 6th May, so please be quick!. All you have to do is input the coupon code ‘thirtylove’ as you proceed through the payment process.  We also have free gift wrap and an upgrade to Express Shipping for all Australian orders – just to make sure you get your presents wrapped and on time!

We have just increased our subscribe and win newsletter offer to $75 per winner, per month…hope you have subscribed!  All you have to do is input your name and email address, you will find the newsletter subscribe box on the www.loboluxe.com homepage, left hand column, just scroll down.  The Subscribe and Win $75 gift certificate can be used store wide but only on ‘in-stock’ items, special orders or custom orders are not included in this offer.

The lucky winners for January to May 2014:  Sally Stowers, Deborah Vanderwert, Steph Proios, Tracey Lee & Rebecca Tompkinson.  Congratulations please contact the store to claim your $75 gift certificate.

Love Stories

St Valentine’s Day is on the horizon, and I have to say I do enjoy the romance associated with this day.  I do recall receiving a few Valentine’s Day Cards myself, many moons ago!

What’s wrong with celebrating love?  I  love hearing about how couples met, their ‘back story’ if you will, that’s why I really enjoyed the movie “When Harry Met Sally”; the little moments where couples – old and young share their first date and how they knew they had met the ‘one’.

St Valentine’s Day is a busy time in the store with many a romantic partner purchasing a heart shaped piece of jewellery; It’s an absolute treat when my customers share their stories about love and the inspiration behind their gifts.

The heart symbol has universal appeal, the jewellery pieces with this symbol have a strong following not only with lovers, but with family and friends too.

For example, recently a Mother bought her daughter a You and Me Bangle – by Flick Pope, as a symbol of her beating cancer and her daughter’s unwavering love and support during this stressful and challenging time.

Another customer purchased for herself the Heart of Gold Necklace – by Jessie Turner, because for her, this necklace epitomized her triumph over adversity, overcaming emotional pain and heartache; she did indeed have a giving heart of gold, the necklace became a talisman of hope, strength and triumph.  The greatest love of all, loving your self and being at peace.

Another sweet story was a young man, who enlisted his Mother’s help to purchase a gold heart pendant by Yasuko Azuma, for his sweetheart.  His Mother obligingly made the purchase on his behalf, he was under 18, and she did tell me that she was expecting to be reimbursed – pronto!  Apparently her son’s girlfriend was a gem and the Mother was delighted to help her son who had saved up for this special present.

I feel very privileged to hear the love stories from our customers, and as I always say, there never can be too much love, joy or peace in the world, Happy St Valentine’s Day!

Flick Pope ~ new styles

It is hard to believe that the store is entering into it’s fourth year of operations.  One of the first jewellers that I selected for the store is Victoria’s Flick Pope, her work resonates with me on so many levels, the romance, the feminine and organic forms and each piece has such an appealing essence.  I can’t say which piece I love more, but what I can say I love getting surprised with new pieces that Flick sends me, from time to time.

More recently we received the cross your heart ring, the silver princess earrings (yes to match the bangle), cloud earrings, wings earrings, and the sumptuous oke doke earrings.

Flick’s appeal transcends Victoria, with fans from all the states in Australia and a growing fan base internationally.

Christmas Catalog

It is always a delight to highlight some beautiful, striking and unique pieces for the Christmas Catalog. With so many appealing pieces it is hard to choose; so many worthy contenders — we will be definitely putting together a few more catalogs!

On a Leap Year: Rings to Win Hearts

I have heard that in times past, a leap year gave a woman license to propose marriage; all I can say is thank goodness we are in the 21st century and we don’t have to wait to say what’s on our minds! Or wait (for whatever reason) to receive a ring, because we can purchase one for ourselves!

Maybe in this leap year, you might find one (or two), that will grace your hand?

Rings = Eye Candy!

In store we have an assortment of original and hand crafted rings, different materials, including sterling silver (and oxidised), gold, gold vermeil, resin, diamonds and semi-precious stones.  The rings are made from a range of jewellers, designers and metalsmiths from Australia and around the world, which equates to originality and uniqueness – something special for you to wear.

We have many sizes in stock, if you don’t see your ring size, don’t worry, many of the rings are available as a special order, so you can have the ring custom sized to fit your finger.  If you don’t know your ring size, please contact us and we will be delighted to send you a free ring sizer.

Top 10 Picks for Mothers Day

My ideal Mothers Day is having breakfast in bed, followed by opening a handmade card by my little boy.  I love the enjoyment he gets with giving presents, although he much prefers to receive them!

Mothers Day is a lovely time to do something special with your Mum, and for my Mum it is having all of her kids and grandkids descending on the family home for a boisterous lunch.  I am yet to decide which Lobo Luxe treasure to give her, perhaps I should take the cue from my top ten!

There are lots of lovely pieces in store for your Mum, to send hints to your partner or children, or to buy for yourself.

I have put together my  top 10 of suggestions for Mother’s Day – hope you like my shortlist!  It was really hard to choose, but I have tried to put together a range that is classical, funky, vibrant, feminine and fun, a bit like our Mum’s, a bit like me!

By the way, I have also sent the top 10 ( via a wishlist through the store), to my husband, I wonder which piece I might get…

Happy Mothers Day!

My best wishes

Charmaine

The Queen of Hearts

Living by the sea in the Mornington Peninsula (Victoria, Australia), and having a passion for life and love, is our featured designer, Flick Pope.  You can click this link, to see the range in store.

I first discovered Flick’s collection over 18 months ago and I was fortunate to meet her shortly after.

After browsing through Flick’s extensive catalog of work, I was struck by the freshness of her style, there is a strong sense of place, love, romance and humour in her jewellery, and I think this is why her work is so popular in her home town, and now through Lobo Luxe, her following grows!

Flick’s collection is embellished with pearls, hammered and scratched textures, little adornments called ‘doo dads‘ and highlights of fine silver and bronze.

We’ll soon be showcasing some new designs from Flick; watch out for two new rings (the Queen of Hearts & Postcard Rings) and some gorgeous, whimsical bangles.

Flick tells us about her inspiration for her collection:

LL: What led you to jewellery design?

Flick: I loved working with metal at high school and my imagination would go wild.  My father was the head of a foundry school and I spent time during school holidays exploring the foundry.  I loved seeing molten metal being poured into sand moulds and a metal object being the finished product.  It was a very industrial place to witness an incredible process and initially I wanted to be the first female molder to work in the foundry.  However, this led me to the more refined and intricate process of gold and silver smithing.

LL: What inspires / influences you?

Flick: Life.  I am a great observer , I love detail and looking at things.  I see constant change around me, in my family and life.  Whatever it is, it excites me to design a new piece.  When I have the feeling of excitement, I can’t wait to draw and see a new design come to life.  It may be a leaf I have collected, or stones that I have made into earrings, they look edible, so I have called them “eat me”, or even a book I have read like “Lady Chatterley’s Lover” by D H Lawrence, which inspired me to create a whole new range of work.

Many themes are very personal, but when the final design comes about there is a lightness, freshness and even some humour.

LL: Do you share your workspace?  How would you describe it – organised or organic?

Flick: The workspace is shared with my long time friend Leisa, who with her husband, built a mud brick studio about 30 years ago. She asked me to join her space and we have shared our ideas even collaborating on some pieces for the last 25 years.

Recently Julie, a painter, joined our studio and brought another quirky dimension to the space.

Morning tea has been known to “go on for a bit” as we discuss each of our own ideas and current pieces.

Caroline has been my assistant for the last 5 years.

The studio is quite well organized as Leisa has all her glass blowing equipment in one half, while my workbenches face the bush and surrounds.

There is a small kitchen and somewhat of a bush bathroom.  Comfort enough.

LL: What are your passions outside jewellery?

Flick: My Husband and children are my passion. We all enjoy a good wallow in the sea and a skip down the road.  Our garden gives me great pleasure, I have loved building it around our house, we have built together.

LL: What tips would you give on how to wear jewellery?

Flick: A piece should be something that becomes part of the person who is wearing it, being careful not to take over; every piece takes on the personality of the wearer.
